June 19th Devotional

Romans 5:1 Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have* peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,

Have you ever had an enemy? In high school I developed an enemy and for about 2 years when our paths crossed it was explosive. But up until that point of our paths crossing, the events leading up to it were always the most intense. Every move you make, you consider, will the enemy be there, and how will I react or respond? Will I make the first move against my enemy, or wait for them to strike and expose themselves. The enemy’s friends and my friends also inherited the battle with the enemy, and even the saying “the enemy of my enemy is my friend” became a reality. The hatred was so strong, the only way of resolution was for either a mediator to step in (like our mommies and daddies did LOL) or for one us to die, unfortunately both happened (suicide)

For a person at odds with God this is the relationship, they are antagonistic towards God, or against anybody that is a friend of God. They study their enemy very closely to know what the people of God are up to, and try to strike at a weak moment. There is absolutely no peace between God and a man not seeking God’s forgiveness and living under his wrath. And the resolution is the same, either a mediator steps in or somebody has to die.

For the Christian we understand both happened, Jesus stepped in as a mediator, and he died. By faith we believe and trust in Jesus as our only means of salvation, and propitiation for our sins. Since we have accepted this by faith in God’s word, we have peace with God!

So if God fits the  characteristics of an enemy for you today, end the war,  accept Jesus Christ as paying the penalty for being at war with God for you, and dying in your place

May the peace of God that surpassing all understanding guard your hearts!

Philippians 4:7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
